Great Horned Owl

Bubo virginianus

Notes:

There must be small chicks in the nest now. When I arrived, the owl was off the nest and a Great Blue Heron flew to the top of the tree adjacent to the nest, looking down on it. Just then the adult owl flew in, looked down inside the nest and laid down a lot higher in the nest than she was last week. Here's a little larger shot of this owl. http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/155...

I bet it will be nice to get away from the snow! And you mean birds like this? ;) http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/313...

Mostly I just want to get somewhere warm and away from the weather we've had in the northeast. There are a few life birds I'll be looking for: Bachman's Sparrow, Nanday Parakeet, Purple Swamphen and if the LaSagra's Flycatcher is still around.

Thanks venusflytrap. I'll be going back to the nest in a couple weeks. In a few days I'll be in Florida taking pics of wildlife.

I think Fyn's Ermagerd is like my Oggle me Goggle -- a way of saying OMG without offending anyone ;)

Thanks Fyn. I'm not sure what Ermagerd is, but I'll take it as a good thing:-)

Thanks Neil and Emily. The owl took over one of the Great Blue Heron nests over a month ago. The herons just started coming back this week and don't look too pleased.
