Southern Bracket

Ganoderma australe (syn G. applanatum)

Description:

These brackets are a little bit closer to home. Handsome specimens, the largest of which is the same size as my hand (photo #3). White border and pores beneath, coloured bands mostly brown to lighter tan and cream, and dark blue-grey bands around the edges. Big, black blob on largest bracket. As a matter of interest, here's the same spotting 4 weeks later (April 26, 2014) - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/276...

Habitat:

Found in my neighbour's backyard. These specimens were growing on a tree stump. Well shaded area. Lots of leaf litter and garden mulch. It's very humid at present after a week of heavy rain.

Notes:

Here's a spotting from last year found on the same stump. These specimens have since died, the remnants of which have disappeared without a trace. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/327...
