Decorated Owlet Moth

Pangrapta decoralis

Description:

Noctuoidea moth with variable wing pattern, but usually mottled yellowish, brown, violet. Scalloped margin on hindwing. Wingspan is 20 - 28 mm.

Habitat:

Eastern North America. Habitat is presumably woodlands, shrubby areas near hostplant (blueberries). This one was photographed at the edge of a southern deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC

Notes:

Hodges#8490. Season is May - September. Larvae feed on blueberry, Vaccinium species. Per BAMONA, this spotting is a new species record for Edgefield County, SC.
