betsy beetle

family - Passalidae

pretty sure on the ID to family, not sure about genus

cloudforest, 2200m

I spotted a few of these beetles in Chicaque natural park. They must have a very wide range as I also spotted them in the Amazon.

I've seen it as bess beetle and betsy beetle, according to wiki. Thanks for the info bayucca, I guess we won't be ID'ing this any further.

Shouldn't it be Bess Beetle? Passalidae for sure. And I think that's it. I do not think that you can ID down to genus and species without the native specimen. There are at least 80 different Passalidae sp. found in Colombia, sometimes only separated by different altitudes.
