Eastern Newt

Notophthalmus viridescens

Description:

Brown to green in color with a yellow underside. Two rows of red spots on their backs. (Usually four on each side, but it varies.) Juveniles are brown to bright orange and are often found on land under logs and leaf litter. They are fully aquatic as adults.

Habitat:

Ponds.

Notes:

Watched these two males chase each other around. We have many of these in both of our ponds, and they are very territorial!
