Lesser Yellowlegs

Tringa flavipes

Description:

Medium-sized shorebird similar in appearance to the larger Greater Yellowlegs. Breast is lightly streaked with brown, underbelly is white, and back is nicely camouflaged with brown and specs of white. The difference between the Greater and Lesser is that the Greater's beak is twice the size of his head, whilst the lesser's beak is about the same size.

Habitat:

Marshes, ponds, and shores.

Notes:

Was walking near the new pond and saw this guy probing through the weeds and picking out cray-fish and insects in the marsh area, I managed to get him before I had to leave the park, what a nice find!
