Firebug/Rdeči škratec

Pyrrhocoris apterus

Description:

Red few millimeters small bug with black pattern.

Habitat:

Found this one in woods, otherwise you can find it from Europe (Atlantic coast) to northwest China. It has also been reported from the USA, Central America and India.

Notes:

These bugs are very common here. Till today I wasn't aware of its name, which is called "rdeči škratec" from "šuštarji" species in slovenian. "Rdeči škratec" means, literally "red little dwarf". Plus, usually they are still or very slow, but this one was very quick and I hardly got a chance to take a picture of it :)

Just to correct you adding to the mission beetles are bugs that have strong chitin shield (coleoptera) while this are true bugs (hemiptera).
