Silvery Blue Butterfly

Glaucopsyche lygdamus

Description:

Small butterflies. Bodies pale blue. Upper side of males iridescent silvery blue with narrow dark borders; female darker blue with wide borders. Both sexes have white fringe. Underside gray-brown; both wings with row of white-ringed, round black spots.

Habitat:

Open woods, coastal dunes, prairies, meadows, road edges, and fields.

Notes:

There was a road cut full of wet gravel where several varieties of butterflies and bees were drinking.

Thank you Lily and Emily! I was very lucky, since these little ones hardly ever sit still, and rarely open their wings. They are constantly on the move, at least when there is someone around with a camera, stalking them. :P
