Many species of sawfly larvae are not gregarious. This is a Lophyrotoma sp. (Family Pergidae) Here's one found singly on ironbarks around here... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/109... They all vary a fair bit in colour as they grow. Here's some more info http://bushcraftoz.com/forums/showthread...)
Thanks Argy, this was a lone larva, no other in sight
Nice colour Mac. This is a sawfly larva; possibly Perga sp.
