Potanthus niobe hyugai
Skipper butterfly endemic to the Philippines. This subspecies is native to the Northern Philippines
meadows, gardens. thickets. This one was foraging among my Arachis pintoi
It might be Taractrocera luzonensis - compare hind wing markings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tarac...
Hi Frankie. I'm not comfortable with Jolly's ID on this one. On the hind wing there is a smaller yellow spot right between the larger two which doesn't seem to be on the wiki version (or other non-PN versions).... we need Jolly or bayucca to comment on this pattern difference. In my experience these variations are important to correct ID.
Thanks Mark Ridgway for the correction.
Thanks Jolly Ibanez for the ID. It is nice to learn it is an endemic butterfly.
Hi Frankie. Not a moth but a butterfly. These are called skippers or darts and the family is Hesperiidae. There are hundreds that look almost the same. :)
