Yellow-crowned Night Heron

Nyctanassa violacea

Description:

*Updated Thanks for the help. I was thinking this was a juvenile great blue, but it was much smaller and the markings around the eyes is different than anything I could find reference to. I checked little blue, green and purple herons and none of those were even close. Phil was kind enough to enlighten me to the actual name which is the yellow crowned night heron.

Habitat:

Marshes, water areas

Thanks Phil for the info and the complement - There were about 4 of them around the little pond I was walking around.
