Lilac-breasted Roller

Description:

The Lilac Breasted Roller, is a beautifully coloured bird with a green head, lilac throat and breast, a blue belly and even brighter blue wing feathers. Both sexes have the same colouration.

Habitat:

The species is found throughout Eastern and Southern Africa. The birds live in open woodland and savannah country, bushy game lands, and areas with well spaced trees. Usually found alone or in pairs, it perches conspicuously at the tops of trees, poles or other high vantage points from where it can spot insects, lizards, scorpions, snails, small birds and rodents moving about at ground level.

Notes:

This bird is the national bird of Botswana and Kenya.
