Lichenomphalia umbellifera

Lichenomphalia umbellifera

Description:

very small light tan mushroom growing from rotting log in Minnekhada Park. Notice how the gills are attached down the stem, which is hollow.

Habitat:

moist rotting log in the spring forest, Pacific northwest temperate rainforest.

Notes:

Interesting notes about this fungus in Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest by Trudell and Ammirati "Most lichens involve ascomycetes; only a handful of them involve basidiomycetes and L. umbellifera is one of those."
