Common Snapping Turtle

Description:

This is the common snapping turtle. It's much larger relative is the alligator snapping turtle. Both of these beautiful species of turtle are endemic to the western world. This is a pic I took in the middle of a shore road in Barnegat Bay, NJ. We stopped the car and offered help for it to cross the road safely. This is a mean turtle!! But sooo beautiful. I love it.
