Rhexia mariana

Description:

Four purple petals with eight long yellow stamens. Rhexia mariana is a species of flowering plant in the Family Melastomataceae. This species is a colonial perennial herb producing stems up to 2.5 feet tall. The oppositely arranged leaves have elongated, toothed blades. The flower is 1 or 2 inches wide.

Habitat:

Spotted in a roadside ditch in southeastern Arkansas. This species is used in landscaping, sometimes as a roadside planting

Notes:

Native to the eastern and lower midwestern United States.
