Funnel-shaped Web

Description:

a beautifully constructed funnel-shaped silken web about 8 mm wide.

Habitat:

Spotted on an Ironbark ( Eucalyptus sideroxylon)

Notes:

This web could be that of a Hexathelid spider, possibly that of a Victorian Funnel-web spider (Hadronyche modesta). They tend to build silken webs in burrows in the ground, on tree stumps or ferns. These spiders are said to be common in and around the Dandenong Ranges I am hoping that someone can confirm this. Thanks.
