anise swallowtail

Papilio zelicaon

Description:

Feeding on dill, in a vege garden in a front yard. I was going to go back and ask permission to transplant some to a wild fennel, but unfortunately, when I returned they'd all been removed. They are rarely seen in our area, probably due in part to our cool temperatures, so I was disappointed not to have been able to move several to a wild food source

Habitat:

suburban garden

Notes:

Spotting 3333!

Thank you! It was the first and only time we've found them in the county in the larval stage, despite masses of fennel growing wild.
