Amanita ochrophylloides

Amanita ochrophylloides

Description:

This aged mushroom had a cap about 70 mm wide. The cap had flat scales with patches of universal veil attached to it. Gills were the same colour as the cap. A smooth skirt-like annulus was seen attached to the stipe (stem), very close to the gills (Pic 3).
Stem was smooth with a bulbous base (pic 5). Pic 1 also shows a couple of fungus flies resting on the cap which showed signs of being demolished by some hungry insect/insects.

Habitat:

Spotted under eucalytpus trees in a nature reserve. The area had just been burnt by a grass fire. There was some moisture on the ground. A native to South Eastern Australia, this species is said to be common in eucalypt forests, especially on roadsides.

Notes:

A very similar species A.ochrophylla has a double ring. Has no common name Order: Agaricales Family: Amanitaceae
