Description:

Got quite large, at least 30-inch diameter, before turning black and shriveling up.

Habitat:

Hilly, wooded, lawn on clay soil.

Notes:

There were three or four of these scattered around the yard, mostly above rotted tree stumps. Did not recur this year. Thank you colbyhenderson45 for the ID!
