Description:

This plant has many names but I have used that I would refer to it as. The spadix (centre) is shrouded by the spathe (outer) which appears around April to Jun, The cream-coloured flemale flowers are destined to become the berries, the berries are toxic!! (shown only when both the spathe and spadix have dropped off which is usually July to Sep)). It is covered in tiny flies which pollinate the female flowers. The female flowers also have red threads coming from some of them.

seen in woodlands near the river Eden in appleby in westmorland
