Northern Redbelly Snake

Storeria occipitomaculata occipitomaculata

Description:

Brown with a red belly that is often bordered with a gray granite-like pattern. Some individuals can be a light tan or gray color instead of brown. This is a live-bearing species (no eggs laid).

Habitat:

Found under natural cover (flat slate rock) in a field.

Notes:

This one had several upturned, discolored scales on the front end of it's body, and a slightly misshapen lower jaw. Otherwise, it appeared to be alert and flicked it's tongue actively. Second time I've found this individual.
