Variegated Meadowhawk

Sympetrum corruptum

Description:

A sexually dimorphic meadowhawk, the females are yellow like this one, the males red. The diagonal white lines on the thorax ending in yellow dots are a distinctive characteristic.

Habitat:

Perching on a twig alongside a slow-moving limestone-bedded creek.

Notes:

These are fairly patient for the photographer, posing on a perch, or making a small circuit before returning if you miss the first shot.
