Buteo jamaicensis
This isn't one of the hawks I typically track, but I noticed it when I was driving by. I'm not sure if that is a small white patch on the back of its head or if it's missing some feathers.
Spotted on utility pole in the easement between residential subdivisons and near churches in Kennesaw, GA
Thx! Yes, no doubt! :) And I am grateful for any and all feedback because I always learn something!
That's great that you were able to obtain a feedback from Liam.
Here is a Californian RTH

No mistaking the dark band across!
OK - going to switch it back to RTH. Sure would love to see some other types of hawks than the 2-3 I keep seeing. Liam, would you mind terribly looking at this spotting of another hawk and let me know if you think I have it right?

Swainson's Hawk, in all plumages, will have a dark chest and a very long primary projection.
Albeit a lightly marked bird, I'd call it a Red-tailed.
I don't know. The powerpole it was sitting on is really massive, so it may look like a small hawk in scale, but this was at the very least a solid "medium" size if not larger. hat makes you think Swainson's? (I'm trying to learn more about raptors and I would LOVE it if this did turn out to be something other than a RTH.)
This looks like a Swainson's Hawk; not super abundant in your area, but not unheard of either.
Hi Jemma - yes, it's very light like freckles - you can see it better in picture #3 where its looking over its shoulder. Do you think it might be something else?
