Oil Beetle

Meloe sp.

Description:

I found this bug along a trail from Porcupine Springs campground to Pike Mountain in the South Hills. It was about one inch in length. I have no idea what king of bug this is though.

Habitat:

I found this bug on a rocky ridge that was full of arrowleaf balsamroot, lupine and Indian paintbrush.

Notes:

Thanks to KeithRoragen for the identification!
