Half Blind Sphinx or Coffee Sphinx

Description:

Small Sphinx moth of about 4.5 cm, with broad stripes across the wings and body. The underwings have bands of yellow and black. The underside of the moth is completely different with thin wavy lines and a red-orange color to the tips of the wings.

Habitat:

Came to the parking lights of a shopping mall, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

The specific name, "lusca", means one-eyed or half blind. There doesn't seem to be any reason for this name since it has two very large, good eyes. Because the larvae feed on several species of coffee, it is also called the Coffee Sphinx. Family Sphingidae.
