An Emerald Moth with diagonal white bands, 2 cm long. Family Geometridae.
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
Thank you so much J! It looks the most like D. iridaria to me and that species occurs on the East Coast and all through Florida. Chiapas has many insects in common with Florida - must be easy to cross the gulf. I have 8 different spottings of Emerald Moths and just don't know if they are all different species or some are variations within a species. Tricky little buggers.
Lovely find, Lauren. I could not reliably differentiate some of the species of Dichorda featured on BOLD, and with only 4 records from Mexico in the whole genus, I did not want to use location as the sole source of the identification. Likely either D. rectaria, D. illustraria, D. consequaria, or D. iridaria.
