Small Grasshopper. Approx 1 - 1.5 inches. tan with brown blotches. Light color (yellow?) on it's wings. Fairly sure it's a band-winged grasshopper.
Sunny, rocky area with flowers and small scrub oak shrubs.
tried bugguide and some others but could not figure out what species.
