Grey Plover

Pluvialis squatarola

Description:

Small shore bird. Approx 8 in high. Buff/Grey top with white belly and black/Grey legs. The best guess I could find was a Black Bellied Plover (winter plumage). Possibly a Willet?

Habitat:

California Coast. Shoreline.

I was pretty sure they were the same bird. The legs do look different colors. Hmmmm.

The first bird photographed could be a Black-bellied Plover winter plumage, or one of the Golden Plover female winter plumaged birds. The best way to determine the difference is usually the spot present or absent underneath the armpit. The second series of birds photographed are Western Willet.
