Spotting

Description:

A sapling. Leaves averaging 8" long, often longer. Rich green, smooth, shiny, somewhat leathery. No odor when torn. These were very common along the path in a hardwood hammock.

Habitat:

Along the Juniper Springs Run... a stream flowing out of the main spring head. Ground was moist, and very rich in organic matter. Several of these of differing sizes were found along the trail.

Notes:

Is this Loblolly Bay, anyone?

Sure Looks like it-- but maximum isn't in Florida.... I'll search for a similar local species. Thanks for the suggestion ! This one (and that turtle!) are driving me bonkers!
