Homopus areolatus
A very small tortoise. It has a sharp, distinctly hooked beak and the noses of the males become bright orange or red in the breeding season.
It is endemic to the Republic of South Africa and is found specifically in the Western Cape Province. Normally associated with stony or rocky areas - horizontal rock crevices provide important protection from predators and temperature extremes.
