Great Egret nest

Description:

Large pile of sticks in a very shallow part of a nearly dry lake. The Egret was placing a stick on it when it quickly flew away when it saw us. I'll return to get a shot of her on the nest. I am very surprised it was nesting on the ground although there really aren't predators that can get to it.

Habitat:

Almost under the freeway in a nearly dried lake. "You’ll find Great Egrets in both freshwater and saltwater habitats. They are colonial nesters, typically placing stick nests high in trees, often on islands that are isolated from mammalian predators such as raccoons."
