Gartered Trogon

Trogon Caligatus

Description:

It was singing very loud and another Trogon in the distance was answering. Trogons and quetzals are considered to be "among the most beautiful of birds", yet they are also often reclusive and seldom seen Male trogon, Indigo, turquoise, blue, grey, back and feathers, blue and indigo head and indigo and bright yellow chest, yellow circle around eyes, beautiful white and black striped long tail.

Habitat:

900 meters above sea level.

Notes:

Neotropics, Trogon. A 2008 study of the genetics of Trogon suggested the genus originated in Central America and radiated into South America after the formation of the Isthmus of Panama thus making trogons relatively recent arrivals in South America. Song :www.xeno-canto.org/106411
