Trifolium campestre
While listed as an invasive weed (http://www.invasive.org/browse/subinfo.c...) this plant is not all bad. It provides forage for livestock while replenishing soil (it is a nitrogen-fixing plant).
This introduced species was originally brought to North America for fodder, but is now found wild in all but six states, and can be weedy and invasive. It thrives on dry, sandy grassland habitats, as well as in fields, woodland margins, roadsides, wastelands and cultivated land.
Spotted on a road-side embankment near a playground.
