Clydonopteron sacculana
Pyralid Moth with a wingspan 15-25 mm. Adult forewing costa are very wavy; forewing brownish-crimson, washed with orange to PM line; some gray shading in subterminal area; white dash inward from costa at top of PM line. Some specimens have purplish shading to PM line. Some specimens have black elliptical markings and prominent white spots in AM area of forewing.
Range is Southeastern United States: Washington DC to Florida, west to Missouri and Texas. This one was observed at a porch light near a southern deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.
Larvae feed on (and pupate in) seedpods of Trumpet Creeper (Campsis radicans). Adults typically fly May through August, occasionally into October. Hodges#5563; Per BAMONA, this spotting is a new species record for Edgefield County, SC.
