Olive-sided Flycatcher

Contopus cooperi

Description:

Darker grey crown, back and tail. Flanks a lighter grey with white center. Big head and a tail that is somewhat short for flycatchers. Like the W. Wood Pewee, this flycatcher prefers the snags of tall conifers to perch, usually on dead or bare branches. Call is what birders describe as "quick-three-beers" . I describe it to almost sounding like one of the calls of a quail.

Habitat:

Forests of mostly conifers

Notes:

Migratory bird for our region
