Wasp Mimic

Trichura cerberus

Description:

This insect blew my mind! Not only for its brilliant green iridescent markings on its body and amazing clear wings but also for a strange, nearly 1.5" long tail! See the last photo.

Habitat:

edge of tropical rainforest

Notes:

I spotted this on the same Ageratum bushes as my last two spottings. I couldn't believe I saw all these three amazing insects at the same place! The Amazon around Mocoa was fantastic and very accessible. Instead of staying in a lodge in the middle of the forest like I did near Leticia, this time I was staying in a hostel on the outskirts of a small town, surrounded by forest. I ended up staying a week in the area, checking out any trails I could do on own.

Thanks Karen, I thought it was slightly different than yours and looks like your suggestion. I think bayucca would agree. I think they are on the same flower. They must really love those. Thanks Braulio and rubens, you're probably right

This one is like mine, but with slightly different coloring. Am I mistaken that they are on the same flower? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/173... Bayucca posted several links on mine

Nice picture.
This tail is probably a kind of pheromones spreader.
