There is a mission for signs of animals and you could put it there. As it was likely made by an insect, you would put it in the arthropods category; perhaps some insect expert can give you more guidance on what it could have been. If a consensus were to emerge that it was not made by an insect, you could later delete the spotting.The mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7208...

It's likely the way beetle larvae carved beneath the bark, when it still had bark.
