Fiddler Crab

Uca sp

Description:

Dark grey or black tiny crab, with a disproportionate orange arm/claw - it seems that enormous claw can be on any side of the body, saw lefties and righties equally... These in pics were the biggest ones I saw, and their bodies were not more than 2 cm across the back.

Habitat:

Seen in a large colony, they were numerous in one stretch of the beach very close to a coniferous forest and shrubs. I saw this colony at the beach near Cox's Bazar - the beach in question is part of That beach (longest sand beach of the world - 120 Km), and the place where I saw them is at the bottom of hills of Himchari National Park. That outing was the best and richest birdwatching (or, rather, nature-watching as I was not discriminating...) day during my stay in Cox's.

And I thought your Ghost Crabs were weird. It's been working out with weights a little too much on one side. Great shot Zlatan. Thanks.
