House Finch (female)

Haemorhous mexicanus

Description:

Very similar to the female Purple Finch and the female Pine Siskin. The Pine Siskin has a smaller thinner bill and the Purple finch has two white markings on the face and may show a crest. House Finches are very common and they have nice song.

Habitat:

Can be found almost anywhere. Open forests, parks, backyards.

Notes:

This was a really hot day and both the House Finch and Bullock's Oriole were taking advantage of a dripping faucet. Spotted at San Luis Reservoir.
