Western Tanager

Description:

Been a good week at feeder! Two days after Lazuli Bunting a beautiful Male Western Tanager Showed up! Actually thought I saw the Female but forgot about it when the Bunting showed up. This Tanager is back this morning breeding pair would be cool, only second time I have seen a W. Tanager in 19yrs living in Colorado, a treat!

Habitat:

Heavy woodland in close proximity to marsh and river system. Right on the path of the old "Ute Pass" a natural migratory path around Pikes Peak for Critters and Native Americans for untold thousands of years.

Notes:

Not Shy at all, seemed tired but after an hour at the feeder was noisy and did not take any of the threats from local blackbirds, in fact stood his ground! Footnote: the Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) in photo 2 was showing its leaves for the very first time this yeas, literally no leaves at all the day before, finally, spring is in Florissant!
