Buteo jamaicensis
Red-tailed hawk atop lightpost. It was dining on a mockingbird, whose partner was protesting raucously and diving at the hawk, who skipped with its prey to another lightpost.
Usually forest with adjacent open country.
This one had spent the entire summer of 2010 circling over Flushing. I spotted him many, many times.

There are many trees and open green spaces in Flushing, but I was still surprised that this hawk decided to call this home.
