Eucalyptus saligna (most likely species)
This is a massive tree! Unfortunately, these photos give no true sense of it's girth or height. All I can say is it's the biggest tree I've seen in quite some time. Probably 50+ metres tall. No loose bark (that I can recall), smooth pale grey surface, very few signs of borers. Most likely a Sydney Blue Gum. Looks like one but I'm unable to confirm it. Not confined to NSW, these gums also grow in southern Queensland.
Mature dry eucalypt forest on mountain plateau - Tamborine Mountain, SE Queensland. Rich volcanic soil, excellent rainfall, full exposure to sunlight and a moderate subtropical climate.
