Rana catesbeiana
This is not Lithobates catesbeianus which are only native from Wisconsin and east. Bullfrogs were introduced to California later. Largest of the North American frogs. Large eardrum, larger then the eye in males. There is a fold around the eardrum. They have no dorsolateral folds, the ridges that run from behind the eye down the length of the side of the back like other frogs. Toes are blunt, skin is rough almost like a toad. Color and patterns vary. This one was a gray green with mottled darker shade on back and large patches on legs.
Lakes, creeks and ponds.
This is the only that didn't jump in to the water as I approached.
