Blind Snake

Ramphotyphlops braminus

Description:

This chocolate coloured shiny earthworm- like creature is a blind snake...apparently also called flowerpot snake. Google search told me these are parthenogenetic...population consists only of females that lay eggs that hatch into females. Non venomous.

Habitat:

Underground unless flushed out by rains. This one surfaced in my garden after the rains.

Notes:

In Kolkata, there is the belief if this snake bites you it will not let go unless there is a clap of thunder!
