Trillium

Trillium sp.

Description:

While the foliage was still lovely on this trillium, the flower was about a month past prime. It was papery and dry - impossible to tell what color it had been. Little Sweet Betsy (Trillium cuneatum) or Yellow Trillium (Trillium luteum) are at the top of my list for guessing what species we have here, but I don't think there's any way to tell definitely by the pictures.

Notes:

Spotted along the road in Great Smokey Mountains National Park (there was a stream on the opposite side of the road).
