Wood Duck

Aix sponsa

Habitat:

Small inlet at Alcove Reservoir.

Notes:

Lifer! As we drive past the reservoir, I always scan the reservoir for any birds. Many are usually too far off, but I saw a male Wood Duck swimming closely in a small inlet. My mother pulled to the side of the road (thanks, Mom!) and I walked back to the inlet. After taking two photos of the male and female (which I had not seen while driving), they began to fly to the other side of the Alcove Reservoir.
