Jersey Tiger moth

Euplagia quadripunctaria

Description:

A day flying moth, about 6 cm in wingspan. Forewings, as pictured, present a zebra like design; while the hindwings (hidden when in rest position) are spectacularly orange-red with few black dots - I did not even register it while it was resting on these leaves; but git attracted by that spectacularly red flash when in flight...

Habitat:

Shores of an artificial lake, borders both of an urban environment and lowland mixed forest; all of this at feet of Jura range in Geneva lake valley.
