It was found on the bank of a river after the spring flood. So I don't know if it is from the ranch or up stream. It seemed short for a cow bone, although it is pretty stout. What does that weird joint attach to?

I posted a picture for you in the Osteology Mission. I was wrong, the bone I have is a metatarsal If you post a couple extra pics of the ends of this bone I can tell you for sure if it's a metacarpal (front leg) or metatarsal (back leg)!

Very cool find! Do you live near ranch land where cattle graze?! This appears to be a metacarpal bone from a ruminant, probably a cow due to its size and shape! I'll post a metacarpal bone from a deer when I get home tonight. I'll post it to the Osteology Mission for you to compare.

Please also consider adding this spotting to the Identifying Animals Through Osteology Mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8475...
