Pycnoporus cinnabarinus
Very bright orange fungi, attached to a dead tree trunk. Several together in different set ups and sizes.
Phuket, Thailand near mangroves and Jungle. Daytime.
Pycnoporus sanguineus is synonymous with P. coccineus by the way, so no third option.
Thanks Neil and Gully. I guess I am going to accept the Pycnoporus cinnabarinus id. I am not anywhere near the fungus to be able to determine the diference, the other ones are mainly from down south I understand.
Hi Mackpuk. I've just been looking at this variety of polypore myself. Here's a link that may help. Read the notes on Pycnoporus coccineus, known in Australia as Scarlet Bracket - http://www.elfram.com/fungi/fungipics_r.... There's also a third species worth considering - Pycnoporus sanuineus... just to confuse the issue. Identifying fungi is never as easy as one would hope.
Thank you Gully. I looked it up on Google. It does look very much like the Pycnoporus coccineus, but I am like you not sure about how to tell them apart. Does anyone else knows?
Pycnoporus coccineus or cinnabarinus. I would guess the former but don't really know how to tell them apart.
