Woods, suburbs Range- Resident in New England
I was lucky to spot both the male and female in fairly close proximity to one another. As we got closer, the female went to a hole in a nearby tree which I would assume is her nest. The male was pecking away at a tree. I got several good pictures of the female near and in her nest. Source- Nat'l Audubon Society Field Guide to New England by Peter Alden and Brian Cassie.
